Outreach
DunnCox
recognizes its responsibility as a good corporate citizen to
the downtown Kingston community, in which the firm is located,
and to the wider Jamaican society. The firm therefore continues
lend its support to the meaningful projects and activities undertaken
by a number of organizations, groups and service clubs. In particular,
those projects which focus on improving the lives of the youth
are very special to the DunnCox attorneys.
For
many years, the firm has provided material support for a day-care
centre serving the downtown community. During 2003, we decided
to expand our outreach programme to help meet the pressing educational
and recreational needs of the children resident in the immediate
environs of this office. To this end, DunnCox chose to partner
in a significant way with the St. Andrew's Scots Kirk United
Church in the development of its Children's Cultural and Educational
Programme.
The
Programme began in 1993 and now attracting some 240 students
from the downtown area in the age range 7-16 years. It arose
from the growing realisation of a need to rescue our children
from the streets of the inner city. Designed to monitor the
regular school day work, the Programme points students to resource
stations, provides counsel for emotional and social well-being
and offers exposure to a broad range of the cultural arts for
further learning stimulation.
In
addition, DunnCox has shown its appreciation for academic excellence
by awarding a scholarship and prizes to students pursuing a
LL.B. degree at the University of the West Indies.
