Emile Leiba joined our firm’s Litigation Department in January 2010. Admitted to the Jamaican Bar Association in 2002, he currently practices Maritime Law and Civil Litigation specializing primarily in Commercial Litigation, Defamation and Employment Law. Emile has acted for international maritime clients and litigated contested ship arrest applications at the Supreme Court and Appellate levels.
Chris Bovell was called to the Bar at the Middle Temple, England and to the Jamaican, Barbadian and Trinidadian Bars in 1961. Chris' practice covered all aspects of banking, corporate and commercial law with a specialist practice in mining law. He has represented major mining interests in Jamaica, Governmental institutions and many large Jamaican corporations in relation to their commercial affairs. The breadth of his expertise and experience has qualified him to serve on the Boards of Directors of several major companies including GraceKennedy Limited and the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. He is also listed as one of the leading lawyers in Jamaica in this area of practice by Chambers and Partners Global and IFLR 1000. Chris is a Notary Public and a graduate of St. John's College, Cambridge University, England with a Masters Degree in Law. He is a former member of the Jamaican Senate and served for several years as the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council. Chris Bovell is widely known for his experience in Corporate Governance and has given presentations locally and at the Caribbean Commercial Law Workshop. He is also Chairman of Allied Insurance Brokers, Barnett Limited, National Road Operating and Construction Company Limited (NROCC), the Corporate Governance Committee of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica and the GraceKennedy Corporate Governance Committee, of which he is also a Board member. He is currently a consultant in the firm's Corporate and Commercial department.
Dennis Edmunds practices in the areas of corporate and commercial law and banking, with particular expertise in the areas of Unit Trusts and Pension Funds. He was a partner with DunnCox from 1987 to his retirement as partner in 2007. His previous work in the Jamaican Attorney General's Department from 1973 to 1987, by the end of which he was Senior Assistant Attorney-General in charge of the commercial division of that department, has equipped him to provide expert advice in governmental and quasi-governmental transactions of a commercial nature. Dennis is a graduate of Cambridge University, England, and was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn, England and to the Jamaican Bar in 1973. He is currently a consultant in the firm's Corporate and Commercial department.
William Panton, barrister, is a member of the Inner Temple and was called to the English Bar in 1977 and admitted to practice as an Attorney-at-Law at the Jamaican Bar in 1989. He has practiced at the English Bar for over 30 years and has expertise in Civil litigation, Employment/Industrial Relations, Family, Commercial and Libel law; also Criminal and Public Inquiries. Hehas successfully represented numerous clients before Employment Tribunals in the United Kingdom and has represented both employers and employees in unfair dismissal, breach of contract, disability discrimination, sex discrimination and race discrimination cases. From 1990-1996, William was employed as the Principal Legal Officer to the Commission for Racial Equality in the United Kingdom, advising on all aspects of Corporate law and Industrial Relations. Since 1996, he has been adviser to one of the United Kingdom’s largest teaching union, the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, representing its members in the Employment Tribunal and Appellate Courts. William is currently a Consultant in our firm's Litigation Department.
Carol Aina was admitted to practise in England in 1988 and to
the Jamaican Bar in 1995. Her primary area of practice is commercial
litigation. Carol also has a specialty practice in Family Law.
She is the Course Director in Civil Procedure and Practice at
the Norman Manley Law School and has been an active participant
on the sub-committee of the Rules Committee of the Supreme Court
reviewing the Jamaican Civil Procedure Rules. Carol is a graduate
of the University of Sussex, England.
