Christopher D.R. Bovell


Chris Bovell was called to the Bar at the Middle Temple, England and to the Jamaican, Barbadian and Trinidadian Bars in 1961. Chris is a former member of the Jamaican Senate and served for several years as the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council. He is widely known for his experience in Corporate Governance and has given presentations locally and at the Caribbean Commercial Law Workshop. He is also Chairman of Barnett Limited and a former Chairman of the Corporate Governance Committee of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica. Chris is currently a consultant in the firm's Corporate and Commercial Department.


Chris is a Notary Public and a graduate of St. John's College, Cambridge University, England with a Masters Degree in Law.


Chris' practice covered all aspects of banking, corporate and commercial law with a specialist practice in mining law. He has represented major mining interests in Jamaica, Governmental institutions and many large Jamaican corporations in relation to their commercial affairs. The breadth of his expertise and experience has qualified him to serve on the Boards of Directors of several major companies including GraceKennedy Limited and CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank (Jamaica) Limited. He is also listed as one of the leading lawyers in Jamaica in this area of practice by Chambers and Partners Global.
